Asuncion

Asuncion is the capital city of Paraguay and situated on the Bay of Asunción, an inlet off the Paraguay River. Planned on a colonial Spanish grid system, visitors to this stunningly beautiful city can stroll its numerous parks, and explore a swarm of plazas. Here, you can spend your day appreciating the architectural legacy of old town.

Enjoy breathtaking views of the city from Parque Carlos Antonio Lopez, located high above Asunción. The Botanical Gardens, situated in a former estate of the Lopez family on the Paraguay River, offers some great views, too. You won't miss the tiny golf course and the small zoo.

Sneak a peek at the natural history of the city in Lopez Residence. has been converted into a natural history museum and library. Package trips can be booked to see the visitor attractions in the surrounding areas.

Ascuncion thrived and flourished along the river bank and was once of strategic importance for the Spanish colonial administration. It was an easier sail from Spain across the Atlantic, and the port was used as a staging area for the rest of the South American heartland.
